Sugaring - Our specialty service
Sugaring is one of the most effective, and almost painless, forms of hair removal. Unlike waxing, the pure sugar paste is applied by hand and removed by hand. Sugar paste attaches itself only to dead skin cells and the hairs, unlike wax which sticks to live skin cells, and so therefore it is recommended for clients with sensitive skin as it produces virtually no reaction.

Sugaring is such a gentle form of hair removal that it can be performed over varicose veins and even psoriasis, There is much less incidence of in-growing hairs as sugaring does not break hairs in the hair removal process. The reason for this is because when the warm paste is applied to the hairs to be removed, it is massaged into the skin and down into the root of the hair and when the paste is flicked off, it pulls the hair out by the root. This obviously slows down the re-growth of the hair as it has to begin a new life cycle.

You can never be burned with sugaring as of course the therapist has to handle the paste first. How many times have you heard of clients being burned with wax that has been applied when it is too hot?

Any area of the body can be sugared – including the entire face or even the inside of your nose! This applies to both men and women.

Once in an established hair removal pattern, sugaring can be performed on very short hairs so you need never be worried about underarm hair which may grow more quickly during the summer months. In fact, sugaring the hair under your arms is one of the greatest revelations as it removes the ‘5 o’clock shadow’ because there is no longer cut hair sitting in the hair follicle.

You can usually switch from shaving or waxing to sugaring in just 10 days.

Sugaring has been voted the best hair removal procedure as it is one of the only treatments that regularises the hair follicle growth. Once you have reached the stage where you are sugaring fully-grown sugared hairs, the results are outstanding as all hairs are being removed at the same time. You will begin to notice areas where hair no longer grows as a result of the follicle dying. Everytime your hair is sugared, you are retarding and diminishing the hair growth.

When you shave, you are encouraging your hair growth. Think of shaving like mowing your lawn – you want it to grow thick and strong and quickly. Shaving also encourages uneven hair growth as it cuts some hairs off at skin level, some slightly above, some you even miss which results in hair growth at all different stages. This uneven growth can also occur with waxing. Because wax is generally very warm when it is applied to the skin, when it cools – which is almost immediately it touches the skin – and the strip is applied to the hardening wax, it inevitably breaks hairs off. This is why clients have an immediate re-growth in some areas where they have been waxed.

Give it a try and you will be amazed at how soft, and fine, the re-growth is but most of all, you will be staggered at how slowly the hair re-grows and how, over a period of time, the hair simply diminishes.

SUGARING VERSUS WAXING

  • Sugar Paste is a natural formula and contains no chemicals
All wax products contain rosins, which allows it to stick to the skin, even those claiming to be ‘natural ingredients
  • Sugar Paste is water soluble and easy to clean from the skin
Harsh solvents are required for clean up which can result in allergic skin reactions and is obviously not eco water friendly
  • Sugar Paste does not adhere to live skin cells, only to the hairs and therefore causes no damage to the skin
Wax sticks to live skin cells causing bruising, redness and considerably more pain when lifted off
  • Sugar Paste will not burn the skin as it is applied at just above room temperature
Wax can burn the skin as it has to be fairly hot to roll off the spatula and once stuck to the skin can only be removed harshly with a strip
  • Sugaring reduces broken and ingrowing hairs because it is pliable and wraps itself around the hair shaft while seeping below the mouth of the folicle enabling the hair to be pulled out each time by the root
When wax is applied to the skin, it immediately hardens on the hair and has a tendency to break the hair off at surface level rather than pull it out resulting in much earlier regrowth
  • Sugar has a very strong resistance to bacterial growth
Beeswax, a common component in wax, attracts naturally occurring micro-organisms and bacteria
  • Sugar is a natural healer to the skin
    Rosins damage fine tissue cells
  • Delicate areas can be sugared with no adverse effects
Wax may damage facial skin tissue over long term use
  • Spider and varicose veins, dry itch eczema and diabetics can all be sugared
    Cannot be treated with wax
  • Sugaring is very hygienic
Although a new spatula is used for each client that spatula is usually put back into the waxing pot each time the therapist needs more wax
